What Does Therapy Look Like?

What I treat:

  • Whether its urgency, leakage, overactive bladder, difficulty emptying or any kind of pelvic prolapse, I help you find a safe exercise plan and strategies for your unique body that will help us identify how your pelvic floor is interacting with your bladder. We will create a plan to get the bladder supported and teach it to return to a more natural rhythm of filling and emptying when it should!

  • IBS, Crohn’s, chronic bloating, constipation issues, anal prolapse, or hernias are all in my wheelhouse! We work to figure out what role your pelvic floor is playing in these issues, and also explore diet, supplement  and positioning strategies that make bowel function easier. With abdominal pain and hernias, we work to create safe exercises for better muscular support, supportive clothing and taping as well as hands on work to get the tissue more stable and moving more comfortably.

  • Scar tissue can be painful and frustrating regardless of where it came from! I work on top surgery scars, scar tissue from surgeries and radiation, episiotomy or birth tear scarring, abdominal scars, c-section and hysterectomy scars and so much more! Hands-on techniques like scar massage, visceral mobilization and internal pelvic work can all help the scars become more flexible and allow your body to move more easily without tugging, pulling or pain! Even if scars are decades old, there is still so much change that can happen!

  • Gender affirming surgery is exciting and can also be overwhelming. Whether you're recovering from top surgery and need support with scar mobilization, having a vaginoplasty, phalloplasty or any other bottom surgery, there can be special considerations that I can help you with as you go through your recovery process. I can help with recovery from surgical complications, scar tissue, nerve pain, and challenges with dilators or tissue healing. I work to help folks who are having challenges with re-discovering what feels good for their body after surgery. I can help with things like painful bowel / bladder / sexual sensation and difficulty with orgasm.

  • Pain in the genital area can be really confusing and scary! Whether it's painful sexual activity, pain with orgasm, anal spasm, or any other kind of frustrating pain "down there", there is work we can do to improve it. We use a mix of exercise, manual therapy (which sometimes includes internal pelvic work), techniques to do yourself with tools at home, and strategies to relax the pelvic floor. I have had lived experience with pelvic pain myself! and I am always excited to help folks of all genders improve in this area.

  • Physical therapy is different when treating hyper mobile patients. Things that can help the average person, could cause you a lot of pain! We work together to create a safe exercise plan that won’t make things hurt worse! We’ll discuss new life hacks to adapt your home, work and hobbies with wearables, equipment, and ergonomic setups that will keep you doing the things you love while also keeping your joints safe.

  • Before I specialized in pelvic health, my background was in neuro rehab physical therapy! I treat body complications related to stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, vestibular issues like vertigo and many other neurological conditions. When those conditions interact with any of the pelvic issues above, it can be extra tricky to find a provider who can help! I help create a program that takes your unique neurological needs into account and helps you access as much function as you possibly can. Neurological healing is slow and steady, and even if your neuro injury happened decades ago, there is still so much we can do!

  • Chronic pain (pain lasting longer than 3 months) begins to impact the brain, nerves and overall changes how you feel pain in the first place! Typical exercises may throw you into pain “flares” and where and when your pain shows up may be confusing. You may have been told its “all in your head” or its something “you just need to live with” and those kinds of messages can be really discouraging and even traumatic when they were delivered by a medical provider. I have a lot of tools that can help chronic pain become more manageable and help you feel safer in your body! If you have a pain or disability condition that impacts your life and energy levels every single day, I want to help you experience more autonomy and agency over your life and find ways to do the things you love even when you are grappling with unpredictable pain or fluctuating ability. I want to help make a therapy plan that takes into account the hurtful experiences you may have experienced in the medical system along your journey and hold space for that history of harm as we explore what your body needs.
